Telecommunications operator O2 launched its O2 Smart Booster in April. The device extends fast Wi-Fi from the operator’s O2 Smart Box modem, making it ideal for large homes and business premises alike. The O2 Smart Booster is available from CZK 49 per month.
“We listened to our customers desiring reliable Wi-Fi coverage across larger spaces while avoiding the need to switch networks. That is why we created the O2 Smart Booster. In developing the device, we collaborated with SoftAtHome, an experienced partner who leads the European market in digital home software development, and Kaon, our hardware supplier,” says Roman Bacík, Director of Product Marketing, Mobile, at O2.
“Our Wifi’ON range of products has been designed to answer both operator and customer needs. We are delighted that O2 has reiterated its faith in our technology to propose new advanced services and features to its end-users based on our products,” adds David Viret-Lange, CEO at SoftAtHome.
Configuring the O2 Smart Booster is very simple. Its Smart Wi-Fi function removes the need for a complicated configuration of users’ home wireless networks as well as the burdensome switching between networks in different parts of their homes. All that is required is to power up the O2 Smart Booster and press its “WPS” button. Everything else, i.e. the network name, password and encryption, is configured automatically. Moreover, the integrated Mesh function makes it possible to run several O2 Smart Boosters to achieve reliable wireless coverage across very large premises. “These advanced functions and their ease of use are the result of close collaboration between O2 and SoftAtHome,” explains Miloslav Mikulčík, Product Manager, O2.
One app for all devices
As with any device from the family of O2’s smart modems, the O2 Smart Booster can be controlled by the O2 Smart Box smartphone app. iOS users can download the app here while the Android version is available here. “The app includes AR Wi-Fi functionality (Augmented Reality), that helps user to find the best location for their Smart Booster. Users whose smartphones do not support augmented reality can rely on the app’s signal strength indicator,” Mikulčík adds.
